Fergie Fury At Welbeck's Call Up For England U19s

manchester united danny welbeck unitedSir Alex Ferguson has blasted the call-up of striker Danny Welbeck to the England under-19 squad. Welbeck scored his first goal for the Premier League champions yesterday in the 5-0 win over Stoke City. The 17-year-old became the league's youngest goal-scorer this season with a stunning 20-yard strike at Old Trafford. He has now been named in Brian Eastick's squad for the friendly against Germany on Tuesday at Colchester.

Ferguson said the Longsight-born youngster may be putting his fitness at risk having recently recovered from a knee injury. "He has hardly played since he got the injury playing for England in the first place," the Scot said. Now he is going away again to play for them again on Tuesday. You don't get a break with these things. I would prefer the boy to get some basis of training before he starts playing football all the time. We have to be careful with that. If they keep getting small injuries, it ends up with a big one."

Welbeck made only his second senior appearance in the 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday in the Carling Cup, before following that up with a goal on his league debut. The striker made his United debut in September in the Carling Cup third round win over Middlesbrough.....Back To Home Page
