The Van Der Sar Show Continues Tonight.

If the 128-times-capped Dutchman, goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, keeps a clean sheet tonight for another 89 minutes for Manchester United against Newcastle, he will beat the overall European record of 1,390 minutes for clean sheets, set by Dany Verlinden in the Belgian First Division in 1990-91.

I had a quick read of a Newcastle United forum and it was quite amusing. This is the big issue tonight as far as they are concerned. They are hell bent on stopping Van Der Sar getting the new record. Now, Newcastle United have their manager Joe Kinnear in hospital recovering from more heart surgery, they are struggling against relelgation, their owner is desperate to get rid of them and all they worry about it Van Der Sar and his record.

Maybe VDS will break the record, that's all well and good. Maybe Newcastle will score and VDS wont break the record. One thing I can assure you of though, is the fact Fergie wont give this record a minutes thought. He is focussed on what really matters, three points at all costs. Win, win, win, whether it be a late 1-0 or a 6-0 thrashing, winning is vital now EVERY game.

Edwin Van Der Superstar Breaks Another Record That Stood For 30 Years

It seems that every time Manchester United play a game recently, they break one record or another. Yesterday was no exception and again it was Edwin Van Der Sar that did it. He has now set an English record for the number of minutes played without conceding a goal in United's 1-0 victory over Everton on Saturday.

The former Netherlands international has gone 1,122 minutes without giving up a goal. He surpassed the previous mark of 1,103 minutes set by Reading's Steve Death during the 1978-79 season.

Van der Sar was last beaten in November, when Arsenal's Samir Nasri scored on him twice.

There is another record to aim for in the next match away to West Ham United. This time it is Chris Woods British record he set when he went unbeaten for 1,196 minutes for Rangers. So here we go again, he needs to keep West ham out for 75 minutes to claim that record too.

Manchester United Injury List Joy

Manchester United's current run of good fortune and good results as well as their record breaking exploits continues today with news that their lengthy injury list is shrinking faster than the Bishop's nether regions after he had been with the actress.

Central defender Rio Ferdinand returned at West Brom on Tuesday after a back injury as United trounced WBA and Edwin Van Der Super Star became the new record holder as he reached 1032 minutes without conceding a goal. All of which helped the champions move three points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 5-0 victory. They now have the best goal difference in the league too.

Midfielder Park Ji-Sung and defender Wes Brown also took part at The Hawthorns and manager Alex Ferguson hopes to have Patrice Evra and Nani fit to face Everton at Old Trafford this Saturday.

"Things are looking up and players are starting to come back," Ferguson said, "Patrice may have a chance for Saturday against Everton. If the game had still been on Monday I'd say he'll definitely play. But he's still got a chance of making it. Nani should also be fit for Saturday as well".

Wayne Rooney is still recovering from a hamstring and Jonny Evans, Rafael, Fabio and Anderson are also sidelined.

"Wayne has never had a hamstring injury before and there is no way we will bring him back early, he's doing terrific work in the gym and, in terms of his rehabilitation, he is on the mend. But we said at the time he was injured that it would be three or four weeks before he would be fit and there is no change there."

Having not conceded a goal since Arsenal's Samir Nasri scored the second of his two goals on 8 November against Manchester United, Edwin Van Der Sar needed to survive 84 minutes against West Bromwich Albion tonight, and he did it with consummate ease.

Whilst he didn't concede, his team mates scored 5 at the other end.

Van Der Sar is now unbeaten in 1032 minutes!

Chelsea's Petr Cech held the record at 1,025 minutes, which he took from United's Peter Schmeichel in 2005.

Edwin van der Sar has the task of keeping West Brom's less-than-lethal attack at bay for a minimum of 84 minutes at the Hawthorns on Tuesday to set a new Premier League goalkeeping record.

The Manchester United keeper has not been beaten in the 942 minutes since Arsenal's Samir Nasri scored the second of his two goals on 8 November.

Chelsea's Petr Cech holds the current record at 1,025 minutes, which he took from United's Peter Schmeichel in 2005, but that is still short of Steve De'Ath's Football League best of 1,103 minutes for Reading and the British record for all competitive games, held by Chris Woods of Rangers, who once went unbeaten for 1,196 minutes (19 hours and 56 minutes).

I can see the record tumbling despite United having a depleted defence. This in itself would be an amazing record as United are not famous for feats such as this. As with all Manchester United teams they rely on free-flowing attacking football with the old Busby philosophy ALWAYS in force.........if we concede one goal, we will score two !!!

Edwin Van Der Sar Signs A One Year Contract With Manchester United

The agent of 'Ageless' Edwin van der Sar has confirmed reports the goalkeeper is set to sign a new 12-month deal with Manchester United. Despite speculation the 38-year-old could retire at the end of the season, van der Sar has previously insisted he is no hurry to hang up his gloves.

This comes just a few months after Van Der Sar came out of international retirement to rescue The Netherlands as they faced a goalkeeping crisis. Vand der Sar's representative, Rob Jansen, has now announced he has been in discussions with United for "a couple of weeks" regarding fresh terms - and that agreement has now been reached.

Speaking to ANP Jansen said: "Manchester United will make it known officially on Friday. We have already been in talks about a new contract for a couple of weeks. Now we have reached an agreement. It is for one year. What will happen after that, I don't know."

Van der Sar joined Manchester United from Fulham in a £5million deal in 2005 when we were facing a keeper crisis after the departure of Peter Schmeichel six years previously. He will remain in my memories for the save he made from Nicolas Anelka in the Champions League Final which won it for us. Manchester United Keeper Prepared To Wait

Ben Foster has not had the best of luck regarding his first team chances at Manchester United. He was out on loan at Watford for a full season and upon his return missed virtually all of last season with a cruciate ligament injury. Despite this, he is still willing to wait his turn and take his chance when it comes. He is often mentioned as a potential player to be included in each and every England squad.

Edwin Van der Sar has started to show his age with a few uncharacteristic mistakes and there is a possibility that either Tomasz Kuszcak or Ben Foster could force their way into contention, with the latter prepared to play a patient waiting game.

Talking to Setanta Sports Foster said: "I have got to take any chance that I am given, United are in a lot of competitions, like the Carling Cup, which gives the manager a chance to make changes. There are also other Premier League games where he might rotate a little bit and give either myself or Tomasz a chance. I just have to get my head down and keep doing the same things in training. Then if my chance comes along, hopefully I will be ready to take it."

"Yes, it probably is harder when you only come in for one game every few weeks. When you are the established number one keeper, you know you are going to be playing, you know what to expect and you can tailor your week to prepare. When you don't know whether you are going to be playing, or even involved, it is hard to prepare, you have to be professional, do the right things in training and be ready when the call comes."

Foster's attitude is rare to see these days. Put someone on the bench for too long and it doesn't take them long to begin the 'crying game' and demanding first team chances. I rate Foster higher than Kuszczak who has the ability to make me nervous every time a cross or corner is aimed any where near him.

Is Foster a future England goalkeeper?

Rooney Fit Plus Other Early Team News 'v' Stoke

Wayne Rooney is expected to recover from a minor chest infection in time for
Manchester United 'v' Stoke on Saturday. Rooney missed the 1-0 Carling Cup win
over QPR on Tuesday night, but should return along with a host of team-mates.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Dimitar Berbatov and Edwin van der Sar were also not involved, while Nemanja
Vidic made a brief appearance after captain Gary Neville tired in the dying minutes of the match.
United are looking to bounce back from the Arsenal defeat, after Samir Nasri's brace sunk us last
week at the Emirates.

Stoke have a doubt over striker Mamady Sidibe, so record signing Dave Kitson is on stand-by to
start at Old Trafford. The 'human missile launcher' Rory Delap is also playing so let's hope fergie is
